I'm not quite sure of this idea but I think it would be funny if you could tag stories.

The Gems

ju1234 8 years ago updated by Joakim Johansson 8 years ago 5

Thank-you Joakim for the gems!

It's real nice to finally have a good reason in writing drafts ( I mean it makes you want to write more instead of starting new stories).

Thank-you!

Read both drafts in a duel?

Joakim Johansson 8 years ago updated by /R/ 8 years ago 10

Basically, should you be able to read both of the drafts that are going up against each other before you watch the duel?

Please add a summery and comments on stories

Gaiadarkstar 8 years ago updated by Amber 8 years ago 1

Like on the back of a book a summary helps us get a good gist of what the aim or main idea of a story is. A tag line is similar and should also be included. I would also like to have both author and others able to comment on each chapter to share thoughts and ideas.

Story Stats

Amber 8 years ago 0

Hey guys,

I don't know what you think, but maybe along with the story, each one should have a stats page. Maybe just a tab, but it would show votes, subscribed, views, but also the points this has gained for the original author, word and character count, and a link to other drafts that didn't win? What do you think/what else should be on there?

Tutorial for new members

Kathy Downey 8 years ago updated by MargieSchaden 3 years ago 2

As successful as Story Wars has become, there still needs to be some sort of 'Tutorial' introducing key points/sections, how the point system works, where to find stories your interested in, suggestions on cover art for new stories, and tips in general on making the most out of the site. This might also eliminate some of the questions here in your forum, thus making it easier on you, Joakim :)

STORY WARS PVP

/R/ 8 years ago updated 8 years ago 2

for anyone who doesn't no the lingo, pvp is gamer talk for player vs player. but wait, R, this is a story writing website. we don't do actual fighting, except for the name!

well, yeah.

but here i go anyways.

story wars pvp would essentially be based around the challenge system - though i have to point out i've never done a challenge where i got to see the challenge bar and therefore i tend not to do challenges (this might need to be fixed) - where you and another writer (or writers?) would be paired up on some poor, unsuspecting story, and whoever's draft got the most points would 'win' and move up in rank on the pvp rankings.

this would 1 be very fun 2 be a way to draw people back to old/abandoned stories 3 have another way for people to get points even if they can't mass produce points.plus we can have a stat for how many times you were #1/top 3/top whatever

additionally you could have it be 'ranked' so that you wouldn't have say a #8 ranked up with a #563 but instead you'd stay close in range so that you can advance more easily.

also you could have a section where you announce that these stories are under pvp voting so people's attention can be drawn and we can have the counter viewed so that everyone can watch these people fight for their rank (wait what about people deliberately voting on a bad draft to keep their rank in pvp - this might be a problem waiting to happen)

you might want a fancier title 'Warrior vs Warrior' maybe that's up to you

essentially this would be a way to give out rankings based on people who write a lot + write well and get around the problems within the point system as a ranking - and if you ever do point system to buy things, the pvp rankings could let you buy a totally different set of things - but that's just an idea

(wow this is a lot of writing whaaat)

Story "Shows" with "Seasons" and Info

Brandon Giesing 8 years ago updated 8 years ago 4

I'm using your platform to make a collaborative "Text Show". Essentially, each chapter is a part that when 5 of them are combined, make an "episode" covering one plot in a larger overarching story. Think of it like a interactive, text-only TV show were multiple writers contribute to each episode and the fanbase votes on where the show goes next.

As of now, I can do this by making a new story for each episode but it's a bit clunky. A cool idea could be to allow people to make "show" pages that do a few things:

  • Show extra info/guidelines for contributing (For instance, I can put a few details that describe the basic plot and character info that the writers build on)
  • Allow grouping by "seasons". I could include 10 per season.
  • Allow a default chapter amount to be auto set (All episodes are 4 parts for instance)
  • Set a Story Cover that would apply to all of them.

Essentially, you guys could be for the TV for text like what podcasts were for audio. Also, I used some TV terms but obviously they could be changed (like a Book (instead of Episode) could be a part of a larger series (instead of season) similar to Harry Potter or Hunger Games)

Reminders for story perspective etc.

Harlander 8 years ago updated by ShalomAleichem 8 years ago 1

I've been talking on the forum about how I quite often lose track of the perspective a story's being written in, which will lead to chapters not matching the rest of the story.

I suggest some arbitrary short reminders which can be set by the story creator and will show up alongside the draft box. So you could say "second-person perspective, past tense, no letter 'e'" and so forth.

Dates

/R/ 8 years ago updated by joakim johansson 8 years ago 2

I think it might be nice to add in a date on a story page, so that you can see when it was posted/last updated/etc you know?
